FANTASTic Heroes project
Fantastic Heroes is an itinerant international project created by the Handic'Happy association that offers workshops and programs with an emphasis on creativity, including animation and documentary filmmaking, to children and adults with disabilities in schools, hospitals, care centers, specialized institutions, mainly in France and Turkey.
We promote self-growth of children and adults with disabilities in order to initiate a change of view and a new conception of their place in society, to highlight their potential and give them the visibility they deserve.
"Playing is therapy itself"
- Donald Winnicott - Pediatrician and psychoanalyst
We have developed an innovative pedagogical and therapeutic approach using tools and methods from
Art Therapy and Play Therapy that seeks to accompany, help and empower people with disabilities.
Creativity allows the participants to deal with the external reality and helps them to implement strategies to adapt and cope with new situations, environments and life challenges. This develops their ability to think and reflect.
Our techniques based on creative play enable participants to feel protected through the use of projection objects, role playing, metaphors and stories, providing the necessary distance and security from their own psychological world.
We provide children and adults with special needs a safe space based on respect, non-judgment, sharing and solidarity to help them express their emotions and to get a better understanding of themselves and the world that surrounds them.
Despite legislative provisions, disability remains a cause of exclusion, in terms of education, access to infrastructure, professional integration, but also social acceptance.
Accompanying people in a situation of exclusion and recasting their image are fundamental steps in their process towards participation and social integration.
We organize workshops to enable people with disabilities to develop assertiveness by expressing their individuality, their ideas, their choices, their story, their experiences, and helping them to reconcile with their image and to restore their self-esteem.
We teach the participants how to create and to draw on their own resources, and we give them the tools to understand their own amazing qualities.
We run awareness campaigns in schools and other venues to open dialogues about difference and to allow empathy in order to facilitate the integration of children with disabilities in schools and in the community.
